THE HISTORY OF LAMINATED GLASS(LAMINATING INTERLAYER)
by PETER SHIN WWW.HELLOGLASS.COM
1906, Englishman used a kind of celluloid or other plastic thin film
between two glasses to make laminated glass.
1916, Some glass laminating manufacturer used glue and celluloid
together to make laminated glass.
1917, Some glass laminating manufacturer used glue, varnish and
celluloid together to make laminated glass.
1920, Some glass laminate manufacturer used cellulose ester to make
laminated glass.
1938, Some glass laminate manufacturer used acrylate monomer to make
laminated glass.
1941, Some laminated glass manufacturer used Vinyl resin film to make
laminated glass.
Not long later, One kind of Vinyl resin film dominated the glass
laminating interlayers, the film is polyvinyl butyral film.
Later on, the polyvinyl butyral film, PVB Film, has been modified for
mechanical properties, temperature resistance properties, light
resistance properties.
Some PVB FILM is highly advanced modified and used a new name, like
SGP FILM, one kind of PVB FILM modified by DUPONT.
In the early of 21 century, EVA FILM, ethylene vinyl acetate, is used
to make laminated glass. EVA Film is easy to processed in simple
laminating machine and plays a important roll in laminated glass
interlayer market. And EVA Film has been modified in mechanical
properties, temperature resistance properties, light resistance
properties. Some type of EVA FILM (eg. CNC-FORCE) can be used to
replace PVB FILM in architectural laminated glass both indoor and
outdoor.
